Nyjer Morgan is out of his damn mind

I’m not sure what else you say about the two weeks Nyjer Morgan has had: He’s pegged a fan in the head with with a ball, ended a catcher’s season with a dubious extra-inning collision (that also cost his team a run and possibly the game) and charged the mound Wednesday night, igniting a brawl that he left celebrating like a rabid MMA fighter.

There’s video here.

I’d chalk it up to ‘roid rage, but Morgan’s only hitting .257/.317/.319.

The real outrage is that Morgan probably won’t get half the suspension that Manny Ramirez got for violating MLB’s drug policy. And really, which one of these guys is actually worse for baseball?

Forget about Manny’s suspension, although I agree Morgan is far more of an issue, he won’t get half the punishment that Zambrano did earlier this summer. Zambrano has issues but he only got in a verbal argument. Morgan has done all of the above and celebrating like he thinks it’s a good thing. Loved Gaby Sanchez taking him out and he took it as he should when he got hit later – just jogged to 1B. Morgan is a thug. Manny has talent. There’s the key difference. Manny may be a drama queen and guilty of “Manny being Manny” but this kid is just an idiot.

He’s also escalating. Clearly. MLB needs to immediately impose at *least* the already handed down 7 game suspension and then expand it. Forget appeals

I agree. I think he should get 25 games. Or just put him out for the rest of the season. It’s not any one thing — just the totality of his craziness.

This is what I followed up with to a friend:

I admit, I’d only heard of him in passing before the incident with the fan in Philly a few weeks ago. And then the last week he seems to have imploded. At what point does MLB do something? Carlos Zambrano is a hot head, but to my knowledge didn’t hurt anyone but himself with his latest tirade that got him sent to anger management. Zambrano throws a ball at a fan, gets 7 games and is allowed to appeal. If he hadn’t imploded this week, it might have come down to 4 or 5.

Now, MLB does nothing after the hits on the catchers. 1 may have been accidental, 2? No way. And then last night’s nonsense? I know he got hit earlier in the game, but the one that started the brawl? Seriously? He was stealing bases. I know it’s generally not done to steal when you have the insane lead, but why not take the chance to get back in the game so you can score on a sac fly? To me that doesn’t warrant getting thrown at. Throwing probably is still from taking out the catcher the night before. I think they should suspend him the rest of the season. If not, he’s going to keep up his antics and then he’ll keep getting thrown at and…

Not like the Nats are competing for anything but the NL East basement. Get him the help he needs before someone is seriously hurt.
